What are Braces?
Dental braces are used to correct the alignment of teeth, and their position with regard to a persons bite. Braces are used to correct malocclusions such as underbites, overbites, cross bites and open bites, or crooked teeth and various other flaws of the teeth and jaws.
Braces work by moving the teeth through the use of force. Force is applied by direction which leads to bone remodelling, where bone is created on one side by osteoblast cells and resorbed on the other side by osteoclasts.
Reason for braces:
- Straighten – crooked teeth
- Align – upper / lower jaw
- Improve aesthetics – of smile and face.
- Relive pressure – on temporomandibular joints
